I have my own YouTube channel where I talk about web design, development and marketing.

Recently I have been getting lots of questions about where to invest my money in promoting my channel. After creating this blog post, I realized that many of you probably also want to know the best place to promote your YouTube channel for the highest return on investment (ROI).

So let’s have a look at the various platforms and the pros and cons of each. This way you can make an informed decision about which one is best suited to your needs.

Pay-per-Click (PPC) Advertising

The first option is to spend money on pay-per-click (PPC) advertising. In this type of advertising, you’ll pay each time a person clicks your ad. The advantage of this type of advertising is that you can target the audience you want to reach and you’ll see instant results.

The primary disadvantage is that this is the most expensive type of advertising and you might not see instant results. Additionally, depending on your budget, you might not be able to afford this option. Finally, you’ll need to keep an eye on your cash flow to make sure you can afford to pay for this type of advertising.

Guest Posting on Blogs

The second option is to write a blog post and have it published on a large blog site. When you have your own blog, you can choose to have it hosted on a free blogging platform like WordPress or Blogger. Alternatively, you can purchase a premium blogging service like tumblr (you can read my review here).

The advantage of guest posting is that you can target an audience that is more likely to be interested in your content. Additionally, you can choose the blog that you want to post your article on and ensure that it will be distributed to the right audience. Furthermore, by posting on other people’s blogs, you’ll gain credibility with your audience.

The disadvantage is that this is a time-consuming process and you’ll probably need to have your article written by a professional copy editor. Moreover, you’ll need to keep track of all the blogs that you’ve posted on and ensure that they don’t violate any terms of service. In the end, this is still relatively expensive and can be a risky process depending on your lack of experience.

Start a Blog

The third option is to simply start a blog. When you have your own blog, you can choose which type of content to put on it; be it an informative blog or a popular one. In my opinion, the best kind of blog to promote your channel on is an informative one that provides valuable information to its readers.

The advantage of a blog is that you can write whatever you want, when you want and as often as you want. Additionally, you can build and grow your audience through interesting content that is regularly and consistently updated. Moreover, with the right tools and strategies, you can make money from your blog. You can use free and premium blogging platforms like WordPress, Blogger and tumblr to get started (you can read my review of these platforms here).

The disadvantage of a blog is that, like the other two options, this is a time-consuming process and needs a lot of work to get right. Additionally, you’ll need to find a way to attract visitors to your blog – either through organic search or paid advertising.

Use Social Media

The final and arguably the most effective way to promote your channel is to use social media. You can use platforms like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to connect with potential customers and engage with them on a personal level. Moreover, you can choose specific posts to engage with potential customers and drive them to your channel. For example, on Twitter you can choose to engage with potential customers by posting about new products or offering them valuable tips and tricks on how to use your product.

On social media, you’ll need to find the right balance between engaging with your audience and making interesting content – something that will bring you more Twitter followers and Instagram followers. You can use tools like Momentum to gain insight into which content performs best on social media and use that as a base to develop and grow your content strategy.

The advantage of using social media to promote your channel is that you can do it from the comfort of your home. Moreover, with the right strategy and the proper use of platforms like Hootsuite, you can keep track of all your social media channels and ensure that you are always engaging with your audience. Finally, you can choose the type of content you want to post depending on your niche – be it product reviews, tips and tricks, etc.

The disadvantage of using social media to promote your channel is that it’s a time-consuming process. You’ll need to set up your accounts on all the various platforms and build a strategy to engage with your audience across the platforms. Additionally, like any other form of marketing, you’ll need to measure the results of your efforts and see if this strategy is working or not.

Overall, the best place to promote your channel is likely to be a combination of all three options – write a guest post on a handful of blogs with a view to building an audience, then use social media to engage with that audience and finally, invest in PPC advertising to reach the most relevant potential customers.
