When a prospective customer gets an email from you, the first thing they’re most likely to do is click on the link or phone number in the email to learn more about your product or service.
This is because when someone clicks a link or calls a phone number, they expect to be led to a certain website or phone number, whichever one you’re using as an affiliate marketing strategy to promote your product. But if you want to register a brand new product or service with a different domain name, you’ll need to set it up manually through the Hostgator dashboard.
The good news is this is a straightforward process and not difficult to do. In this article, we will walk you through a step-by-step process of how to add ClickFunnels as a Cname in Hostgator so you can register the domain and start receiving affiliate commissions.
Step 1: Select The Affiliate Marketing Network You’ll Work With
When you decide to add ClickFunnels as a Cname in Hostgator, the first thing you need to do is select the affiliate marketing network you’ll work with. There are several popular networks such as ShareAlike, RevGlue, and CJ Affiliate that you can choose from. You’ll need to consider your specific needs and requirements as well as the strengths and weaknesses of each network.
Step 2: Register Your Free Domain
The next step is to register your free domain name with Hostgator. When you first sign up for an account with them, they’ll give you a free domain name. But to continue receiving free services from them, you need to tell them a little bit about yourself and your affiliate marketing website.
This is super easy to do. Simply go to the dashboard for your account and click on the “My Sites” tab. You’ll see a list of all your active sites, including the one you just registered for the purpose of this article. Simply click on the name of the site you want to use for your ClickFunnels registration and choose the “Settings” option from the dropdown menu. Then, enter the domain name you’d like to use for your brand (i.e., clickfunnels.com) and hit “Save Changes.”
Step 3: Add The ClickFunnels Subdomain As A Cname
Now that you have your free domain name, you can add the subdomain (i.e., clickfunnels.com) as a CNAME record in your domain’s DNS settings. Simply go back to the dashboard for your new domain (e.g., johnsmith.com) and click on the “Hosting And Domain Management” option. Then, choose the “DNS Settings” tab. You’ll see a map of all the existing domains and subdomains you have registered with Hostgator. Simply click on the name of your domain (e.g., johnsmith.com) and choose the “Create A CNAME Record” option.
This will open up a new “Record Set” window where you can add a CNAME record for the domain you selected. Simply add the subdomain (i.e., clickfunnels.com) you registered for this purpose as a CNAME record and save the changes.
Step 4: Test Your New Domain
Once you finalized the settings for your new domain (e.g., johnsmith.com), you can test it by going to https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3A+(yourdomainname). You’ll see a small message at the top of the search results indicating that Google found 1 result for your query. If you see “0 results” instead, then it means Google couldn’t find any information about your site at this time.
Once you’re sure your domain name is active and functioning correctly, you can move to the final step.
Step 5: Configure Your Account With The Popular CMS
The last step is to configure your account with the popular content management system (CMS) called WordPress. To do this, simply go to the dashboard for your account and click on the “Users” option. You’ll see a list of all the users you have created on the system. Choose the name of the user you want to use for this purpose and click on the “Change” button to the right of the name.
From the dropdown menu, you can select the user role you’d like to assign to this account (i.e., editor, contributor, or viewer).
Next, enter your FTP credentials (if you have them) and click on the “Install WordPress” button. Once the installation is finished, you can log in to your new WordPress site and begin making changes.
What If I Want To Return To Hostgator?
Once you complete the five-step process described above, you’ll have a fully functional WordPress site with a custom domain name that generates revenue through affiliate marketing. The only thing left to do is to repeat the process to remove the CNAME record you added in Step 3.
But if you ever want to go back to using the free domain name you have with Hostgator, simply go to the dashboard for your account, click on the “My Sites” tab, and then choose the name of the site you’d like to use for your WordPress registration. When you click on the name, you’ll see a small message at the top of the page that says “This domain is already registered by someone else.” Simply click on the “Delete Profile” button to the right of the message to remove the site you just registered and move back to the free domain name you have with Hostgator.
As you can see, adding a ClickFunnels subdomain as a CNAME record in Hostgator is incredibly easy. Even if you’re not very tech-savvy, you’ll find the process very user-friendly. With just a few clicks, you can have a fully functional WordPress site with a custom domain name delivering affiliate marketing traffic to your pages.
