You may be familiar with the concept of a custom domain, or a domain you’ve purchased which is not owned by a third party. The idea behind a custom domain is that you have full ownership of the domain, which means you get to choose how the domain is used, and when it’s activated or deactivated. You may have also heard of branded domains. A branded domain is a domain which associates your brand with the content it hosts. For example, if I created a blog titled “Back to Basics”, I could make the domain name “basicsbackto.com”.
I could then use this domain to host any type of content that is connected to my brand, including, for example, a blog post titled “How to Setup a Custom Domain in Clickfunnels”. When a user clicks on this link, they will be taken to my blog post. This is a pretty easy way to get more viewers on your site, and it’s a free way to do it!
Another great thing about a custom domain is that you can use any TLD (Top Level Domain) you want for it, like.com,.net, or.org. Having a country-specific domain like.co.uk or.de won’t do you any good unless you host your website content from those domains as well. So if you’re looking for international exposure, a custom domain is the way to go.
Step One: Register Your Domain Name
Before you can use your custom domain, you’ll need to register it with a company like GoDaddy. When you register a domain name with GoDaddy, they will give you a website address which you can use to access and administer your domain. Make sure you use this address, because you won’t be able to edit your website’s content through GoDaddy’s interface if you use a different address. So if you use myexamplesite.com to create the blog post you mentioned earlier, make sure you go to myexamplesite.com to edit it.
You’ll also need to purchase one or more vanity or “tag” domains with which to brand your content. For example, if you want to create a blog around fashion, you could purchase the domain fashionvanity.com and use it to host your content. You can then use the blog to promote your website via blogs and social media in general. You may also want to use a tool like Google Adsense to monetize your content.
Step Two: Point Your Domain At A Website
Now that you have your domain name registered, you need to point it at a website. You can do this by going to GoDaddy and creating a new “A” record, or address. This is an DNS record, which is a name to IP (Internet Protocol) mapping. The “A” record lets people know where to find your content when they google search for it. In this case, we’re going to point the domain at a website built with WordPress.
To do this, go to your domain’s dashboard on GoDaddy and click on “A” records. Then, in the “Add Record” window that appears, click on “A” and then click on “Next”.
Now that you have an “A” record, you can go back to the DNS records for your domain and change the address to point to your new website. For example, if you used myexamplesite.com to create the blog post you mentioned earlier, you could change the record to point to a WordPress instance at myexamplesite.com, or you could use a free service like @namecheap to point your domain name to any WordPress-based website you want. @namecheap will then give you a free.blog domain to use. Make sure you point your domain at a website that’s already optimized for SEO (Search Engine Optimization), otherwise, you may not see any results from your website’s content when people are searching for it online.
Step Three: Install WordPress To The Latest Version
To use your domain, you’ll need to use WordPress. GoDaddy offers a one-click install of WordPress, and it’s the perfect CMS (Content Management System) for your needs because it’s incredibly simple to use. Installing WordPress to the latest version is also important, otherwise, you may find that outdated blogs still show up in your search results if you’re not using the latest version. So always make sure you update WordPress when a new version is released.
Step Four: Configure Your Site To Use The Custom Domain
Once you have WordPress installed and updated, you can use the Dashboard to connect your custom domain to your site. Navigate to the Settings menu in WordPress and select the “General” tab. Then, in the “Network” section, click on the “Create New” button next to “Network Address”. Now, in the “Name” field, type your custom domain, then click on “Save Changes”. You can then repeat this process for the other two “A” records you need to set up (pointing your domain at a website and installing WordPress).
Once all of that is done, you can visit your domain’s dashboard on GoDaddy to check out your new settings. Make sure to click on the “dashboard” link in the top navigation bar to get to your domain’s dashboard.
Step Five: Test Out Your New Domain
Now that you have your domain set up and connected to your WordPress site, you can start testing it out by creating a few blog posts. Make sure to use your new domain, because if you don’t yet have a website using your new domain, then you won’t be able to publish content successfully. Once you’ve tested it out and are sure everything is working correctly, you can then publish content to your site regularly.
